Considered one of the great promises of Portuguese jazz, vocalist and composer
Sara Serpa is now part of the vibrant New York jazz community and is a new
addition to Greg Osby's group. Described as a "phenomenon" by All About Jazz,
Serpa is poised to become the new vocal model for contemporary jazz and
creative music. Using her voice like a woodwind instrument and going far beyond
the expectations of traditional scat, Sara Serpa's music establishes innovation
without ignoring the jazz tradition.

Drawing her inspiration from the shores of her native Portugal and other elements
in nature, Sara Serpa presents her interpretation of the elements with "Praia"
(beach). The project is an outstanding showcase for Serpa's very personal and
finely developed vocal approach and compositions.
"Praia" features John Lockwood (bass), Andre Matos (guitar), Vardan Ovsepian
(piano), Nick Falk (drums) and a special appearance by Greg Osby (alto saxophone)
Serpa is exploring new horizons and new artistic goals that are sure to distinguish
her from other vocalists of her generation.
